Unexpected !!
In august 2006 I was invited by some hunter/friends to visit them in the Ardennes. I was no hunter at that time (I passed my exam this year though) but brought my mountainbike instead. We arrived late in the evening on friday and all the hunters had gathered at the house where we were supposed to stay for the night. I put my car (Toyota Corolla Verso) next to the 4x4 pickups and got out of the car in my t-shirt and shorts which didn't make a big impression on the hunters since they were all dressed in green and camouflage clothes. I asked them if anybody had tried to shoot a boar or deer but none had been lucky. A few hunters had seen nothing at all and others had seen animals that were too far away. The following morning they returned from the woods and I went outside to see if they had more luck than the night before. But they told me the same story as before. Sunday, still no luck for the hunters. So, on monday I decided to take my mountainbike for a tour through the forest. After half an hour I saw something on the trail some 100 metres in front of me. When I got closer I could see that it was a boar lying on the ground. At first I thought that this animal was asleep so I began shouting to wake him up and chase him away. But the animal didn't move at all. Only when I stopped beside this boar did I see that it had been shot and was severely wounded. It was clear that the animal had just died since it was still warm. So all I could do was take my mobile and ask my hunter/friends to come to the woods and take the animal back home. When I called them they thought that I was joking and had to tell the story again. Only when they arrived with the Jeep did they believe what I had said on the telephone. They took the animal to a butchershop to see if it was still ok to be eaten. So when I came back from my mountainbiketour they had already cleaned the animal and removed the left shoulder. At the end of the weekend I was the one who went home with meat in the booth of the car and all the hunters had to go home empty handed. So bringing my mountainbike instead of a rifle wasn't such a bad idea after all !! Ich verstehe deutsch aber für mich ist es ein bisschen schwer zum schreiben. Entschuldigung. Peter
